In this issue we feature an interview with the Sri Lanka based textile artist Sonali Dharmawardena. Sonali has worked in a number of mediums: fine art painting, ceramics, jewellery, and more. But it is with batik - the traditional technique of wax-resist dyeing, that she is now best known. She has taken a traditional craft, and through experimentation and new technology, has shifted it into an innovative and dynamic quality that works equally well within the fashion world, as it does in the fine art.
